Twinning Project: “Increasing Road Safety in Azerbaijan” is seeking to recruit

Full-time translator / interpreter  

The Overall Objective of the Project is to contribute to the reduction of road crashes, especially ones resulting in death or severe health injuries and socio-economic damage. The Specific Objective of the Project is to improve legal and institutional capacities and staff competences of lead and participating public agencies and other stakeholders to better manage, coordinate and address traffic safety issues in Azerbaijan.

Duration: 13 months (indicative date: from 1st of September 2023 until 6 of October 2024).

Position is based in the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport in Azerbaijan, Zarifa Aliyeva Avenue 77, Baku, AZ1 AZ1000 Azerbaijan / for some time can be based remotely – Home Office

Starting date (indicative): 1st September 2023.

Candidates shall not have been in any contractual relation with the Beneficiary Country (Azerbaijan) public sector during at least the 6 months.

Qualifications: 

  • Excellent command of spoken and written English (C2) and Azerbaijani language (mother tongue).
  • University degree in English Language and/or literature.
  • Previous experience in language assistance, translations and interpretations.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations.
  • Advanced usage of computer and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, Power point, Zoom, MS Teams, etc.).
  • Ability to work under pressure and be able to prioritize. 

Additional qualifications which would be considered as advantage:

  • Previous working experience in twinning projects or other EU funded projects.
  • Knowledge of Polish language can be an asset.
  • Experience with transport infrastructure and/or vocational transport infrastructure terminology use.

Job description: 

  • Act as a language assistant to the RTA (Resident Twinning Adviser) and assisting short term experts during their visits and online activities.
  • Translation of written materials (documents, legislative texts, training materials, information materials and other written materials) for the project from English to Azerbaijani and vice versa. 
  • Act as a language assistant to the RTA (Resident Twinning Adviser) and assisting BC representatives during their visits to the Project Leader and Junior Project Leader country.
  • Edit Quarterly Project Reports and other official Project publications.
  • Drafting of minutes of meetings and written materials with relation to the project in Azerbaijani and English.
  • Interpretation during missions, meetings, workshops, seminars, trainings and other project events. 
  • Developing and maintaining close working contacts and relationships with Beneficiary Country and Member State Countries officials involved in each of the activities and the project management. 
  • Close cooperation with the RTA and RTA assistant to manage daily workload especially assisting to the RTA in organization of experts’ missions, trainings, seminars, workshops, steering committee meetings, and other project events.
  • Support to the RTA in liaison with the European Union Delegation (EUD) to Azerbaijan and Programme Administration Office (PAO).
  • Support to the RTA with the promotional activities including preparing content for Facebook posts on the project profile.

Selected candidates will sign a contract with the Centre for EU Transport Projects (Poland) and shall provide a tax certificate which proofs that he/she pays taxes on the remuneration.

The above-mentioned Twinning project is funded by the European Union and will be implemented by the Centre for EU Transport Projects in cooperation with the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport in Azerbaijan.
