The event on Community Empowerment and Development of Civil Society Organizations in Azerbaijan was held with the support of the EU and the IFRC

On July 26, 2023, under the project called “Bridging the Gap between Community Needs and Local Capacities and Capabilities of the Civil Society Actors in Azerbaijan”, the event on Community Empowerment and Development of Civil Society Organizations in Azerbaijan was held with the support of the European Union (EU) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

The purpose of the event is to review the development cooperation experience between the IFRC and the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society (AzRCS) as well as to point out the Community Empowerment and the IFRC approach in terms of the EU Bridge project funded by the EU.

The first phase of the event started with welcome speeches from Novruz Aslanov, the president of the AzRCS, Fuad Huseynov, the deputy chairman of the IDP Committee, and Davron Mukhamadiev, the head of the South Caucasus Cluster Delegation of the IFRC. Each organization mentioned its activities for the sake of humanity as well as underlined the importance of cooperation among the organizations on humanitarian activities in the future and are ready to act together in terms of the project.

In the second phase of the event, Serdar Gunel, Programme and Operations manager of the IFRC in Azerbaijan presented detailed information about development cooperation between the IFRC and AzRCS regarding achievements in institutional development, lessons, and good practices throughout the years. 

Afterward, Serdar Gunel continued his speech with a presentation on Community Empowerment and the IFRC approach. During the presentation, he mentioned objectives and expected outcomes, engagement with CSOs and the methodology, call for proposals, and selection of CSOs as well as the way forward. 

At the end of the event, questions were received and answered.
