STRONG WOMAN, STRONG SOCIETY

13/03/2025

On Wednesday, 12 March 2025, the Delegation of the European Union to Azerbaijan launched a new campaign to mark International Women’s Day under the slogan “Strong Women, Strong Society” at a special event held in Baku. The event also included the opening of “Colours of Europe” art exhibition of Azerbaijani women artists and displayed the “Outstanding Polish Women” exhibition of the Embassy of Poland in Baku.

The campaign will aim to raise awareness about gender equality and international progress towards gender parity alongside the main theme of International Women’s Day 2025 of “accelerate action”. Furthermore, EU initiatives to combat gender inequality will be highlighted through online channels and events.

In his welcome speech, the EU Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mr. Peter Michalko stated: “Improved gender equality contributes to a stronger society. That is why the European Union’s latest Gender Equality Strategy includes key objectives for ending gender-based violence; challenging gender stereotypes; closing gender gaps in the labour market; achieving equal participation across different sectors of the economy and achieving gender balance in decision-making and in politics.”

Through the EU-Azerbaijan partnership, numerous EU funded projects for gender equality have been implemented benefitting women and girls. The event hosted several EU project beneficiaries who talked about their work, tips for success, and how they overcame challenges.

Another highlight of the event was the opening of “Colours of Europe” women art exhibition showcasing the artworks of 25 women artists from Baku and the regions.

At the event, Mr. Peter Michalko acknowledged the women artists and thanked the beneficiaries and partners who have worked tirelessly to empower women and challenge gender stereotypes. At the end of the event, the EU Ambassador invited all guests to break their fast together with Iftar dinner.
