Following flooding on the Kura River in 2010, salt water from Lake Sarysu, located 5-6 km from the village of Telishli, destroyed crops and covered irrigation canals with bushes and reduced their water carrying capacity. As a result, the people living in Telishli lost their income from agriculture. This was particularly devastating given that the population of Telishli is historically tarakama, and members of the community are striving to keep their farming traditions alive.
