EU Delegation to Azerbaijan supports beach clean-up event ‘Protect Marine Life Together’
On 25 September, the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan organised the #EUBeachCleanup campaign together with the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources as part of the International Coastal Clean-up Day.
Representatives of the EU Member States’ embassies, Young European Ambassadors, young volunteers, schoolchildren, WWF Azerbaijan, and other international players took part in the event.
Six hectares of land in the coastal settlement of Dubandi area in Baku have been cleared of plastic and other waste. Special containers have been installed with the support of the EU delegation to sort the waste on the beach.
The event’s intention was not only to leave one of the Absheron beaches nice and clean but also help to attract media and public attention to the challenges of marine littering and plastic waste.
The event was organised in a safe and secure way, respecting social distancing in accordance with current COVID-19 regulations.
In 2021, the EU is joining forces with ActNow, the United Nation’s campaign for individual action on climate change and sustainability. Earlier this year, #EUBeachCleanup was recognised as a Sustainable Development Goals good practice.
