This year, Safer Internet Day will be celebrated on 9 February. Since 2004, Safer Internet Day has been a key landmark of the online safety calendar in over 170 countries. It is organised by the Insafe/INHOPE network of European Safer Internet Centres (SICs) with the support of the European Commission.

This year the eTwinning schools project aims to media literacy and stresses the importance of critical thinking skills by explaining how to tackle the disinformation and fake news. There will be many activities focused on the topic: professional development opportunities, project kits for teachers and students, conferences, communication campaigns and articles. eTwinners passionate about online safety can also join the group Bringing eSafety into eTwinning projects to share and exchange knowledge on the topic.

The Safer Internet Day organisers encourage the teachers, educators and social workers to equip their pupils and students on this day and throughout the school year with the digital literacy and critical thinking skills they need to better navigate the online world. They can find a range of pedagogical materials on online safety for many different age groups, in different languages on Safer Internet Day website.

Thousands of schools in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine participate in eTwinning projects.
