EU Delegation launches the “She is the Power” Campaign to mark International Women’s Day 2023

The Delegation of the European Union to Azerbaijan today announced the start of a month-long campaign to mark International Women’s Day and to celebrate the success, abilities and power of women in Azerbaijan. The EU Ambassador, the Ambassadors of the EU Member States and prominent Azerbaijani women took part at the launch event at the Ganjlik Mall, where an interactive stand will be available for the public until 15 March.

“The message of this campaign is to celebrate the power of women – the power to achieve anything they aspire and dream about”, said Peter Michalko, Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Azerbaijan. “The EU is proud to celebrate International Women’s Day under “Team Europe” umbrella with more than 20 Azerbaijani women from various fields who are the “faces” of our campaign. Our aim is to inspire all generations and to initiate a discussion on what makes a woman powerful. Through its policies and programmes the EU aims to ensure women can participate fully in all areas of society and to increase opportunities in education and employment,” the EU Ambassador added.

The “faces” of the EU Delegation campaign feature women from the fields of Culture, Education, Sport, Civil Society, Business, Health as well as of mainly male dominated Aviation and Security.

During the campaign, a variety of activities will take place, including a dedicated radio programme on women as part of the AvropadaASAN radio programme series on ASAN Radio 100 FM; presentations at universities; billboards featuring the faces of the campaign; success stories and videos on the social media platforms of the EU Delegation and others.

To boost gender equality, the European Union has supported a number of projects in Azerbaijan that aim to improve the status of women and girls in education and employment; and also tackle some of the common gender stereotypes that may prevent access to equal opportunities and rights.

The new EU Gender Equality Strategy 2020 -2025 has a number key objectives such as ending gender-based violence; challenging gender stereotypes; closing gender gaps in the labour market; achieving equal participation across different sectors of the economy; addressing the gender pay and pension gaps; and achieving gender balance in decision-making and in politics.
